Although we don’t get a ton of rain in Arizona, (aside from monsoon season) we do experience April showers on occasion. It is important to understand how to clean our carpets following a rain shower in order to maintain it long-term.
Let Mud Dry
It might seem odd to let a mud “stain” sit on your carpet but it really is in your best interest to let the stain dry completely before addressing it. If mud ends up on your carpet, allow it to sit and dry out before cleaning it up. If you start rubbing the mud while it is wet, it could set into the fibers of the carpet.
Use a Vacuum
Once the mud has dried, you can run a vacuum over the carpet in order to remove it. Slowly go over and over the spot in order to pull the most dirt possible. Typically, you should be going over the spot roughly sixteen times in all directions in order to remove the majority of the stain.
Get the Basics
In order to clean a mud stain, you’ll need a mild dish washing detergent and warm water. Using a white cloth, simply blot at the stain and you should be able to see it lifting. If the towel gets soiled, be sure to switch towels out so you don’t spread the stain further.
Call in Professionals
If you still can’t get a mud stain out after following these steps, it’s important to call in the professionals at that point. You’ll want to make sure you remove stains immediately; doing so will help preserve the life of your carpet.
