Choosing the Right Carpet for Your Home

If you are looking into carpeting your home, whether it is one room or several rooms, you probably became overwhelmed the minute you started searching for “the one.” Selecting a carpet can be a difficult decision and with so many colors, textures, and prints available, it might feel next to impossible. Before you select your dream carpet, there are several things to consider.

Consider Quality

All carpets perform very differently and you have to consider where you are putting the carpets and what quality they’ll need to have. If you bend a carpet sample back and you can see the back easily, that carpet is low-density and is likely low quality as well. You should be looking to purchase a carpet that ranges from 34 to 40 ounces if you want it to stand up to frequent traffic.  It is important to understand what quality you need to have to get the most out of your carpet.

Consider Fibers

Carpets are made up of different fibers and all of them serve a different purpose when they are laid down. For instance, a nylon carpet is often the most durable and resilient, and it is usually easy to clean. If you are looking to carpet a child’s bedroom or a room that gets a lot of foot traffic, a nylon carpet will last through it. A polyester carpet typically stands up well to stains, is typically very soft, and comes in a variety of colors. However, it can be hard to clean polyester carpet if it does get stained so it might be best in a room that doesn’t get as much traffic.

Consider Color

Although you might desire a white living room carpet, it might not be the best choice for the space you are filling. You might have to look past your “dream color” and settle for something closer but more practical to give you peace of mind in the long run. If you have pets or children, a white carpet is probably a disaster waiting to happen. A white colored carpet will show everything, regardless of the quality. If you have a formal sitting room that you rarely spend time in, a white carpet would likely be a good choice. You have to consider what kind of room the carpet is going into and how the color might work within the conditions of that room.
